| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Ample parking, my Subie had no problem. Saw some other front whee drive cars in the parking lot. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Leaves - Significant/Slippery, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Water crossing right before the Bald Peak spur claimed one gentlemen in the morning. Sounds like he tried to cross and stood on some weak ice, fell in up to his waist. Saw him on the way out in good spirits. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Few blow downs, everything avoidable. Trail is in great shape maintenance wise. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw one up on the ridge, he/she looked happy! I’d be cautious with the pooch on the river crossing |
|
| Bugs: |
One snow flea |
|
| Lost and Found: |
One orange yack track on the TH sign |

| Comments: |
Little bit of everything today which would be standard after a few aggressive rain storms and freeze/thaw cycles. No snow from the parking lot up to the Bald Peak spur. I put my spikes on before the river crossing just to be safe. Was about 40 degrees on the way up so post holing was a tad annoying. Life on the ridge was socked in, windy, and changing. After i tagged the official South Kinsman summit (doesn’t look like many people actually head over there from the outlook), cold winds came in and i put my jacket on for the first time. Made it out in good time with temps rapidly dropping, which made the descent much easier. Overall a great day in the mountains. |
