Beautiful day with clear skies and great views of the Presidentials. The trail varied between narrow monorail, wide monorail, frozen postholes, snow with ice underneath, bare ice, and frozen leaves. Used spikes and trekking poles the entire time and felt they were sufficient. Crampons would make the descent easier in one or two sections but they’re not absolutely necessary. The three others I saw today were wearing spikes as well. |
