Beautiful day out in Crawford Notch. 8:15am it was 4 deg F at summit, NW 15 mph wind (vs the 50+ at higher elevations.) Trails were in fine condition, packed out and easy to follow at the lower sections. I used microspikes and left the snowshoes in the car - definitely the right call. There are a few bare/wet spots lower down where there's still active run-off, though no big deal really. Closer to where the spur trail leads off where it opens up across some slabs, and then heading up the spur trail, there's a monorail but ~ 1" fresh powder made it more difficult to stay on it ... a few stray steps left or right and I postholed a few times ~ 6" or so. All in all a pretty straightforward and enjoyable hike. |
