Comments
Comments: My snowshoes were on the backpack all day. The trails were too hard and too all over the place for them. I had crampons on, but microspikes should have been sufficient. The trails were in rough shape especially lower 19 mile brook and the entire Carter-Dome. Where there was snow, it was hard frozen. But there were spots with running water, crushable crust, thick ice, dry rocks, wet rocks, and mud— basically 4 season conditions. lots of postholes— Cater-Dome was the worst, the otherwise nicley packed down hard frozen trail literally turned into swiss cheese—it will need lots of fresh snow to fill these holes. These holes significantly slowed me down on descending; even so, I tripped several times and fell down once. Be very careful!
