Comments
Comments: The rain last week did surprisingly little damage. First quarter mile or so is bare trail, but frozen surface. Monorail all the way from there, a few postholes here and there; lots of running/standing water on the trail, but that should freeze & set soon enough. Last 1/3 of Glencliff the snow gets significantly deeper, but still stable enough to only require microspikes. The ridgeline across to the summit has some drifting powder and the monorail is hard to follow -- the sides are deep powder. The final stretch along the cairns is black ice w/ a thin coating of powder -- kinda treacherous. Summit has no drifts, just ice/frozen crust. Scouted the top of Carriage -- monorail, but soft w/ the sun exposure. Top of Beaver Brook was nicely packed. Top of Benton was broken, but not really packed -- definitely still a snowshoe affair. The spur to South Peak was well packed all the way.
