Today we did our 2011 snowshoe adventure up Mt Tecumseh. 3:15 hours up and 2 hours down. We were the first in after the last snow so the trail was not in great shape. The lower section up to the second river crossing was clearly visible with 2 to 4 in of new snow and some drifting. Above the crossing the trail was beat up. A couple skiers had come down and bare booted back to the ski overlook. Above that the trail was more and more drifted in and disrupted by the skiing. From the junction with Sosman to the summit it got really difficult with 3 and 4 foot drifts.
The return trip was very slippery all the way to the upper river crossing.
After our hike the trail is lightly packed and very slippery above the upper river crossing. Traction needed and snowshoes a must above Sosman.
We had a good day with temperatures between 0 and -5 near the summit, but not much wind.
This was our second winter assent and 4,000 footer number 11 and 19 for us. |
