The Webster-Jackson trail was snowshoe perfection and everyone we passed was wearing them. Thank you! We opted to head to Webster first, knowing that the trail was barely broken, and hoping to help pack it down. It was slow going. We could really only see one set of tracks and many had filled in over the course of the previous day. Our efforts were further hampered by low hanging trees which require ducking under and still dumped snow on us. We made it the junction of Webster Cliff trail. The spur trail to the summit was not broken out yet so we headed in that direction next. The snow depth was higher than our trekking poles but we broke it out to the summit and had the summit to ourselves. I think we headed up to the summit a tad early but did walk over to the true summit. The remainder of Webster Cliff trail was still slow going with deep unconsolidated snow. From Jackson to the parking lot was a paved sidewalk. We encountered 2 in microspikes leaving holes in the soft snow. Snowshoes are still the footwear of choice until this really freezes and becomes more solid. |
