Started out as an older icy packed trail, then transitioned to a filled in trench and eventually to an unbroken trail. We broke out to the junction of the Mt Stanton trail. We encountered a few folks heading back down with snowshoes so the trail should be well packed. We also did the Mt Cave Spur. It started out crusty but rapidly switched to powder. The trail is not marked well and there are some steep areas near the cave that were difficult to climb even with snowshoes as the snowpack is not consolidated. The snow was quite damp heading down so I expect there will be good crust soon. |
