Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found: lots of extra roads not listed on some maps. Use this: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7224200 for more accurate navigation. It's a small miracle I found the right trails.

Comments
Comments: Can't cross the river at Sawyer Pond Trailhead so I drove down Bear Notch rd and parked on Rob Brook Lane and followed old XC tracks along Rob Brook Rd until the Brunel Trail split. I managed to get right to the base of Owl's Cliff where it gets steep (~2300') but due to my late start I decided to bail. I then followed Rob Brook rd until it splits again at Sawyer Pond Trail. I'd been hearing snowmobiles for about an hour and was very disappointed to find 4 guys and 3 snowmobiles trying their damndest to get up Sawyer Pond Trail. Not a snowmobile trail mind you, a hiking trail. They seemed puzzled as to why they were having so much trouble. They were headed for the shelter at Sawyer Pond, as I was, and I was horrified to hear that they brought a chainsaw and planned to cut up wood for a fire. I'm not saying they were going to cut down living trees, but my horror was derived from the prospect of listening to their snowmobiles for another few hours, and then that tune would turn to a chainsaw for the night. I passed them quickly and was happy when they never arrived. I found the next day that they had given up and turned back. Man 1, Machine 0.
