Comments
Comments: Changed gear in warmth of ski lodge. ;<} Polecat was well groomed packed powder, almost beat the first chair to the summit, spikes from car to tower, saw 1 hiker at parking lot and at the tower, he started to head over to A while I was on the tower, as I started over a few minutes later he appeared and indicated there was only one set of snowshoe tracks beyond the start of the decent and he wasn't up to the out and back struggle. Put on the snowshoes and kept them on until 19 MBT. Thank you to the perhaps a handful or a few more that had broken trail over to A, trail was still soft and needs more with snowshoes. Only a few post holes close to E and after A on decent to the notch. There is some deep snow on WRT, perhaps 3 - 4 feet and drifting filling in the track. Saw no-one going cross until meeting Maureen at jct with 19 MBT, she was heading up to Carter Dome. 19 MBT well packed but did have some balling closer to Route 16. 19 MBT is always a picture taking walk. The sound of water and snow covered rocks and ice patches in the river were a welcome sight. Was hoping for good hiker hitch hiking karma. Crossed the road, stuck my thumb out to 4 cars, walked to end of the guardrail, took off may pack to stow some gear and a white pickup truck had backed up. Thank you Elaine from Gorham for the ride. Was at Wildcat ski area in less than 10 minutes! All in all a nice day to hike.
