Valley is well packed, did not need snow shoes despite a few soft spots. Osgood to the summit of Adams was more soft and had deeper drifts but still not requiring snow shoes. The section of Gulf Side from the Madison Hut to the Adams Summit was less packed but easily followed and still firm enough to wear light traction. Airline was where things got difficult. Below tree line there was substantial soft spots despite the trail being broken. Snow shoes were almost required. Many post holes already in the soft trail. It's the time of year when we should all always bring them. Hopefully the next few storms will fill in the upper 2 miles of of Airline. Otherwise it was a glorious winter conditions day in the Presi's. We saw a dozen or more other happy trekkers on the trails. Walk in peace |
