Comments
Comments: New Hike to these peaks. Plymouth Mountain is on the New Hampshire 2000-Footer List and Plymouth Mountain - West Peak is a New Hampshire 500 Highest List.

From our parking area we continued a short distance up Pike Hill Rd. After crossing over a bridge and then onto the Plymouth Mountain Trail. The trail starts off as an old woods’ road with well-marked white signs and a black Mowigis wolf on it.

With our snowshoes strapped on we continued on this trail heading east at easy grade, at rough 1800 ft of elevation the trail turns northeast towards the ridge and steepens. Just over 1900 ft the trail turns east again at easy grade, then a few more steep sections, soon we hit a per summit bump. At this bump we lost the trail and started bushwhacking southeast, jumped back on the trail and soon hit the 2,193 ft summit of Plymouth Mountain.

We set off to our next destination, Plymouth Mountain - West Peak by retracing our steeps to that 1800 ft location. We then jumped off the trail in nice woods heading southwest over a bump, dropped down to the col between these two peaks, started climbing in moderate grade, over a few more bumps soon leveling off and hit the recognized high point of 1,970’ Plymouth Mountain - West Peak on the far southwest end of the summit.

The summit PVC canister unfortunately was missing the 2” screw in plug at its base and the register. We dug through a couple feet of snow and couldn’t find it. Next hiker up be sure to bring one.

Rather than retracing our footsteps northeast back to that 1800’ location on the trail, then back to the car we jumped off the northwest side of the mountain in nice woods straight back to the truck make it a nice loop hike.

We clocked in just over 4 miles, 1400 ft of elevation and both Mary and I took turns breaking trail in snow depth between 10 to 20 inches
