Comments
Comments: Thanks to Gumbyhiker and Ashley for breaking out the route to Carter Dome on Sat. Unfortunately at least 1 hiker on Sunday barebooted the entire hike, resulting in the section from Zeta Pass to Carter Dome summit becoming badly postholed. Knee- to hip-deep postholes since the snow is so deep and still very soft. I did what I could to even it out, but limited what only 1 person can do. I took Carter-Moriah Trail over to Hight on the way down, seeing only snowshoe prints from upper Dome Tr jct to Hight summit. That section was nice! no postholes! But then postholes again on my descent from Hight back to lower Dome Tr jct. ?? 19 Mile Brook Tr heavily used and firmly packed; I used spikes until Carter Dome Tr jct and switched to snowshoes shortly up Carter Dome Tr. Possible to use spikes as far as Zeta Pass but the snow depth and drifts significantly increase above Zeta. Snowshoes advisable!!
