It was a nice loop hike over Catamount Hill today. It appeared that several folks had been there the day before and in the morning before we arrived. Snow basically covered the whole route to varying degrees, everything from a thin, crunchy crust, to a packed down couple inches, to an unpacked 4-5" that was easily done in bare boots. There was ice on the rockier portions of the trails along the way, but it was all in the form of small patches that were easily avoided. There were a few stretches devoid of snow but covered in a thick blanket of fallen leaves that hid some soggy, muddy ground beneath. All in all, a good trip in Bear Brook! |
