Comments
Comments: Jim, Larry, Rick and I had our first full winter conditions hike today--fun, fun, fun, but that first time on snowshoes each season is always a bit of an aching jolt to the leg muscles, at least for me. We bare-booted to the Bald Peak Spur junction, then switched to snowshoes for the rest of the hike, until back down past the last stream crossing below the spur junction. We had to pack out between 2-4" down low, to 6-8" up high, and there was some amount of packed base below us already, as a trench was visible most of the way. So, even with the new snow coming in, there will be a good packed base below it, albeit with boulder bumps and poke-throughs still occurring until snow depth increases.
