Date of Hike: Sunday, November 11, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking for several cars at the end of Connor Brook Road (FR 95). Road in decent shape, with only a dusting of snow. Did not go in the first entrance, as there were frozen puddles of unknown depth (high clearance necessary), but the second entrance closer to the Maine border was in good shape... and had no show stopping puddles.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The minor crossings on Shelburne Trail were easily hopped.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few stepovers and leaners on the road portion of Shelburne Trail. Kenduskeag was brushy in a few spots, probably more so due to ice in the trees.

Comments
Comments: Today was spent in the cold, wind, snow, and ice, taking in Shelburne Moriah from the north. What started as an inch or two of refrozen granular, transitioned to a foot of sometimes soft, sometimes crusty snow on the approach to the summit. Followed a couple of sets of tracks up to the height of land, whose owners donned snowshoes about 700' below the HOL. The snowshoe tracks turned around about 300' and 0.5 miles below the summit. Things would have been easier had we had snowshoes, but light traction sufficed. Very cold and windy in the exposed areas along the Kenduskeag Trail and on the summit, and the sun didn't do much to lessen the cold. Great day out with Rachel, shaking down for the winter season!
