The first "small" brook crossing was raging-was able to stay dry using a downed tree. Two other crossings were rock hop-able and raging as well. Lots of running water down the trail below 3500'. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Met the trail adopter who was headed up to clear water bars and clear 2-3 minor blowdowns. Thanks for your love of labor:) |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
One dog headed up over the kinsmans- I hope he does well with ice! The Ridge trail was an ice rink I would not take my hell beast up there as she is dumb and would probably hurt herself. |

| Comments: |
Put my spikes on at about 3500'. Trace snow on trails and LOTS of water and mud-two minutes below the ridge I hit the ice! It was a slick hike over to Kinsman Pond-the slabs were pretty sketchy but doable with a little care. The pond was about half frozen and socked in. There were a group of youngsters who had camped at the shelter and declared that they were freezing and ready to go home. other than that I saw no one on trail until a mile from trailhead. I skipped bagging North Kinsman because it was socked in and I didn't feel like an extra .8 miles of super sketchy icy ridge hiking! Oh, and Bald Peak has great views-don't skip it!!! Overall a glorious morning to be in the mountains |
