Days are getting shorter so you'll want to maintain a 2.5-3 mph on the flats. Just past Black Pond we lost the herd path, and wound up doing a true bushwhack - it was brushy, muddy and wet! On the way back we had an easier time following the path, but at the end of it nearing Black Pond we would have lost it (again) but for a GPS app. that we started using. (Thank you Gaia). The OH slide is steep as promised, beautiful views off the slide if the weather cooperates. I definitely recommend the Brutus whack as an alternative for the descent. When descending OH, you'll get to a large rock at a bend in the trail, the whack goes off into the woods to your left. Once on the whack it was pretty easy to follow, but again the GPS helped in a couple of times. For our group hiking time was about 10 hours total. |
