Comments
Comments: The Lost Pond Trail avoids a crossing of the Ellis River. There is new boardwalks near the beginning of the Lost Pond Trail. Great view of Mt Washington and Huntington Ravine from the shore of Lost Pond. Wildcat Ridge Trail is very steep and rough especially the ascent out of the notch. Rock stairs and wood stairs make the footing a bit more secure. However, the ascent of the ledges in wet weather or if surfaces are icy would be very difficult and likely not safe. Most of the ridge hike are on rocky surfaces with some small muddy and wet spots. Superb views of Mt Washington and the eastern ravines from various points on the ridge. There are also views east to the Wild River Valley and the Evans Notch area from other outlooks. There are no summit signs on the peaks except Wildcat D has the elevation noted on the observation platform and Wildcat A is adjacent to the viewpoint down to Carter Notch. Expect tourists around the top of the ski area.
Saw many hikers today. A few hikers from southern NH. A surprising number of AT thru hikers going in both directions.
