Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: only crossings on this route on Jewel - both with nice bridges
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All in great shape, Caps ridge and Jewel had a few walk unders that were no problem but might pose more difficulty in winter
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Not sure I'd recommend Caps ridge as a dog friendly hike given the scrambling up the caps and the boulder scrambling above the cornice. We met one poor dog that was stuck on the first cap too afraid to go up and too afraid to go back down.
Bugs
Bugs: Nothing bothersome today!

Comments
Comments: Hike up Caps ridge and down jewel with a car spot. Late start meant we came down in the dark but we caught an amazing sunset as we crossed Monticello Lawn. Clear skies and nice temps made this an excellent trip. Trail we took were all in great shape. Forgot just how tough the caps ridge trail can be with the scrambling and boulder hopping but we made it to the top. It is the shortest trail to a 5000 footer but still a nice challenge. Met a lot of folks out enjoying the day. Only minor trail finding challenge coming down the jewel trail was the stream crossing closest to the Ammonoosuc trailhead - in the dark it took us a minute to find the trail on the far side of this crossing- after you cross the bridge and then head across the boulders in the stream bed bear to the left and you'll find it. BTW- have they relocated the boundary line trail? We didn't see the sign heading down and the sign at the trailhead said it was 0.9 miles where the maps and my memory recall it 0.4 miles from the trailhead.
