Water Crossing Notes: No significant water crossings on this route
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good condition. One large evergreen with a smaller striped maple beneath across the Blueberry Ledge Trail in the lower elevation. Easy to get by. One large evergreen across the trail about 3 feet above the ground on the Wonalancet Range trail south of Mt Wonalancet. Can either go under or over.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one dog on Whiteface. Its owner said he assisted the dog over one part of the steep ledges on the Blueberry Ledge Trail. This trail may not be good for many dogs not used to steep ledges. Saw another dog that had walked up Dicey's Mill Trail which is easy for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: Fortunately the steep ledge section on the upper part of the Blueberry Ledge trail was dry which afforded secure footing. This trail would be treacherous when wet or icy. Unfortunately there were no views on Mt Whiteface's south ledges due to low clouds. The same was true on the Rollins Trail where the clouds obscured The Bowl. Luckily the clouds dissipated somewhat by the time I arrived at the various outlooks on Mt Passaconaway. The north outlook on a 0.3 mile side path (former Downes Slide Trail) is well worth the effort as it has an expansive view north to most of the White Mountain peaks.
Many other hikers having a good time on both Mt Whiteface and Mt Passaconaway. It was a solitary hike after passing the Walden-Square Ledge junction. The Walden and Wonalancet Range trail route back to Ferncroft provides an alternative to Dicey's Mill Trail. The route is interesting although it is rough in places and requires additional elevation gain not required on the Dicey's Mill Trail.
