Lots of them on Great Gulf Trail. All relatively easily crossed. A lot of standing and running water in the trail especially past the intersection with Six Husbands and Wamsutta trails. The trail up the Great Gulf headwall was a waterfall in lots of places. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Well maintained for the most part. A little narrow in some spots with the forest closing in. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
There was a very young and very nervous pup at the summit. Another barking up a storm at the trains. |
|
| Bugs: |
Not bad at all. Some flies and mosquitoes around Spaulding Lake. |

| Comments: |
I don't know what made me want to climb the Rock Pile the long way today but I'm glad I didn't talk myself out of it. A long, fun, challenging, and somewhat unorthodox loop with more solitude than I could ever dream of getting on most if not all of the other approaches to the summit. |
