Sunny, but cold day; -3 degrees in the parking lot @ 9AM. Trail narrow, but well packed with about an 2 inches of loose granular. Most rocks covered except for the larger ones. Some ice under snow on some of the steeper rock steps. Did the entire trail with microspikes only. Trail to the view past the summit was not broken out at all, so didn't try it without snowshoes. Met one hiker who also did Whiteface. He said he'd needed snowshoes and crampons there. |
