Comments
Comments: Used skis to the end of Zealand Rd, then used snow shoes the rest of the way. Zealand Rd. had at least 2' of snow once past the plowed area, but the trail was well broken. The trail to Zealand Hut looked like it had been broken by a few people and not to difficult to follow. Once past the hut, the trail wasnt broken. I took the Twinway trail to Zealand breaking trail the entire way. Snow depth was 8-12" near the hut and got progressively deeper with 2-3' drifts up high. Made the summit and tried to clean my trail up on the descent, but it was still pretty rough. Once back to the Hut, met another couple of hikers planning on staying so the trail should get better. After the two hikers came up to the hut (with a sled), and the caretaker, the trip back to Zealand road was much better with well packed snow. The ski back to Rt.302 was uneventful.
