Traveled from Route 302 to about one mile up Zealand Trail. Zealand Road was plowed (for logging - not open to public) about 1.2 miles; was barebootable or skiable - though generally thin and with some scratchy spots, so don't use your best skis. Beyond that point there is a single ski/snowshoe track - still soft from the new snow. It seemed that about 5 people traveled to or from the Hut today, most on snowshoes. One hiker was rumored to be trying for Zealand Mtn. - with the need to break trail beyond the Hut, so good luck to him. Skiing out was decent, though slow due to the new snow. We used the short "rock garden bypass" near the start of the Zealand Trail. |
