Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Two river crossings both have bridges. One other small creek very easy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Sign at trail head indicating the trail had extensive damage. I assume that was from last Fall's storm and work has been done since. Trail was not bad at all really. Were several blowdowns along the way, all generally easy step overs with one that was the perfect height for debating crawl under/climb over. Two issues of note. At the first river crossing the trail is pretty badly washed out just before the bridge (This area is traditionally bad but it is worse than normal this year). Also, at the first of the two "clearings" that traditionally get tree damage (approx 3500') there is a pretty good tangle of trees down over the trail. Most are in the 6-8" diameter range and I think could be cleared easily with hand tools. There is also one large uprooted tree with a fairly large diameter that might take more effort. There is a well established bypass that weaves through the area so from a hiking point of view it doesn't have much impact. The Jewell Trail is also pretty poorly blazed, with very faded blue and yellow blazes barely visible, but the trail is quite easy to follow so it is a non issue. Most of the blazes on rocks above treeline are barely visible. Drainages appear to have been recently cleared. Very little mud/standing water.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This route would be fine for dogs. Generally very good footing all the way with a few awkward areas on the upper part of Jewell Trail.
Bugs
Bugs: None today. Cool and rainy with enough breeze to keep them away.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: none

Comments
Comments: Tried to take advantage of the small weather window AM to possibly catch some views but shortly after reaching treeline the clouds descended and it got foggy and rainy. Visibility was quite low most of the day but the winds were pretty calm so not too bad, I'd say 5-15 mph most of the way and 15-25 mph on the actual summit cone itself. Just before reaching treeline on the way back I was treated to a quick break in the clouds and some views. And then it rained all the way out.

This route is snow and ice free from parking lot to summit. No traction needed. Quite wet though with a lot of running water on summit cone. Only saw 2 groups of people all day: 2 girls hiking up just leaving treeline and 3 kids walking their dog in the first mile or so of Jewell Trail heading out. I know the forecast was lousy but for the SAT of Memorial Day weekend to only see 2 hikers on this route was almost impossible. No complaints.
