| Water Crossing Notes: |
In a word, hairy. Not for the faint of heart. The water is cold, deep, and moving fast. Rocks are slippery and treacherous. One might just wait a few weeks for the water levels to drop a bit. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Lincoln Brook trail is its usual near-paved self. Very fast travel is easy. Franconia Brook trail is in acceptable shape. No blow-downs that couldn't be easily passed. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
| Bugs: |
Black flies abound if you're not moving along. Otherwise, they're not noticeable. There were water-striders in the brook from time to time. |

It was a glorious day on the mountain. Unexpectedly, I met a new friend, Patrick, on the way up, and we joined forces. Not just for his wonderful conversation, this turned out for the better, as the water crossings would otherwise have turned us both back, had we been solo. The trails are in very good shape, all things being equal, within the wilderness area, and we experienced fairly straight forward navigation despite the absolute dearth of blazes. Bushwhacks were much less problematic than those I've experienced on other mountains -- indeed, some areas bordered on being almost outright improved trails.
Blog post has more granular information as well as an above average number of pictures. |
