crawford path in great shape below and above treeline. well packed out with pretty minimal ice on the ridge between pierce and eisenhower. the usual patches in some of the ledgy areas. trail up eisenhower pretty much the same with a couple drifts higher up. short hike up to pierce a mix of rock, snow and ice. real neat conditions above treeline with the summits going in and out of fog/cloud and minimal wind. i wore snowshoes up to eisenhower, but then had one fail beyond repair on the descent. it was then i kicked myself for carrying crampons rather than light traction as a back up to the snowshoes. cancelled my plans to head out over jackson and booted it back down crawford path. it was my lucky day as ems was having a sale on snowshoes......nice to see lots of familiar faces and to meet some i only knew as names online. |
