Peaks
Peaks Mt. Chocorua, NH
Trails
Trails: Carter Ledge Trail, Middle Sister Trail, Hammond Trail, Weetamoo Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, May 12, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The parking lot at the White Ledge Campground is CLOSED and gated. There is room for three or four cars near the gate. I turned around and parked at the Piper lot and walked the 1.3 miles north to White Ledge.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only the crossing of the Chocorua River at Weetamoo required any real negotiation.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A lot of the yellow blazes are faded, and it takes a bit of doing to find the path near the summit, but many people just climbed straight up the rocks. Going offtrail at the summit of Chocorua is less difficult than staying on-trail at say the Holt up Cardigan. If you are approaching the summit from the north, turn right at the big ledge; there is a path that goes around and comes back at the summit from the south.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There is a sign at White Ledge that says all pets must be leashed.
Bugs
Bugs: A few.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found:

Comments
Comments: There are a few melting snowpacks in places, but nothing worth stopping to put on microspikes. The Carter ledges themselves were as dry as one could wish.
