Comments
Comments: The snow starts right off the bat on the ammo. We barebooted on the rocks poking out of the snow pack and added hillsounds before the gem pool. It was warm when we started but the trail was firm and we didn't sink - a few degrees warmer and I would have used the snowshoes I carried. Below the gem pool there is between 4-5 feet of snow and some of the deepest postholes where I couldn't see the bottom just hear rushing water. Above treeline there are snowfields leftover - all are easy to get around or over. The summits were lovely - sunny, light winds and empty. The Jewell has 1 to 2 feet of rotting snow and what is left is uneven, choppy, and soft; definitely slows the pace. It was here that we picked our way down with short steps, I used all the imagination I could muster up at the end of the day to guess where the best footing will be.
Thanks to Dot for the good company and it was fun to talk with Snowflea and Fancypants. Excellent day out hiking!!
