Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Doable for now, but it’s getting quite sketchy. I had to walk up and down scoping out advantageous rocks. Over the next few days, it’s only going to get more difficult. The Gale River is roaring, and stepping stones are precious and few.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple blow-downs here and there. I managed to deal with a few, but someone with a bigger saw could nail down the one that’s about 1/4 mile from the trailhead.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None that I saw, but I did see periodic paw prints from a presumably persnickety pup.
Bugs
Bugs: A few — it wouldn’t have been unreasonable to count them, they were so few.

Comments
Comments: The road in is bare to the ground. Beyond that, it’s a mix of just about everything. Mud down low. Annoying mini post-holes. (This was when I switched from spikes to snowshoes.) Ice breaking underfoot with a splash. (Hooray for Gore-Tex boots!) “Thought provoking” river crossings. Decent spring-snow monorail in the upper half. Trees and mountains getting in the way of a truly expansive view. In short, it was a hell of a day out. Shorts, tee shirt, snow, negligible bugs. What’s not to like?

Blog post will be forthcoming. Photos might have to wait until tomorrow.
