I WOULD NOT PLAN TO HIKE PAST GLEN BOULDER. It was a great hike up to Glen Boulder with decent traction until we got above the trees (There was about 3 inches of soft snow with a harder icy layer underneath that did have us slipping even with spikes). Definitely need microspikes. Once we were above the trees there were some steep icy sections, but not too bad. After the boulder we were able to hike up to a good look out point of Washington and the valley, but after that look out point the snow was so high we were crawling under trees for about an hour before we had to turn back. The snow was still at least 5 feet on the ridge and you either had to bear-crawl under trees for 50 yards at a time and then when you could stand you would post-hole down to your waist. We were crawling so much we couldn't wear snowshoes. |
