Trail was a mix of sticky snow, ice, and slush (esp in the sun). The ledges on Blueberry were manageable with mircospikes though we did slide down a few times. On Rollins the trail has been only lightly traveled and we had to pay attention to the breaks in the trees to follow the trail since it was unbroken and the blue blazes were infrequent. The sun was quickly melting the ice off the trees, it sounded like it was raining. I wish I'd worn a raincoat becuase I was drenched by the time we hit Dicey to go up Passaconway. Around the bowl the snow has filled in parts of the trail so we had to traverse the slopes on the edges of our boots. Trail to Passaconway was easy. Big postholes from a moose which looked injured because there was blood and fur on the trail. Dicey was in good shape but again, lots of traversing across sloped snow at the higher elevations. |
