Comments
Comments: Overnight trip to gain some Redline miles and tag Cannon. Mixed bag of trail conditions depending on location and time of day. All trails will require snowshoes and/or aggressive traction devices once snow melts more and ice forms. Basin-Cascade trail is broken out and seemingly stable for now, same with Cascade Brook trail and Around the Lake trail. Lonsome Lake trail heading up to KRT was packed well but the steeper sections were showing some icing. The section of KRT heading up Cannon was getting icy, however there is still a lot of snow making it doable with Hillsound trail crampons. I was wishing I had brought full crampons for this section. From the intersection with Hi-Cannon trail it is well packed. Hi-Cannon trail is in good shape in some spots, but with the afternoon sun it became mashed potatoes making for a slick descent, and it is lumpy to say the least. The ladder is fully exposed. I carried snowshoes the entire trip and ironically enough had to use them for the Pemi trail as it had only seen traffic from a pair of snowshoes. Definitely a wonderful trip and a great loop hike.
