Comments
Comments: Used microspikes on Crawford path to just above Mitzpah junction - postholes and uneven surface due to barebooters. Switched to snowshoes because started postholing. Stayed on snowshoes all the way to Jackson, then back to microspikes. LOTS of postholes from Pierce down to Mitzpah. Mitzpah to Jackson was only marginally broken out, we did our best to improve it but path is narrow and some postholes. Lost the trail at the first meadow, picked it up and waded thru hip deep snow for short period, then back out to second meadow and fine from there. One icy wet spot going up onto Jackson, then shoes off and dry bare rock to the summit. Ledges at top of Jackson on the descent had wet ice, semi-soft but very slippery - my bro had a careening slip but no harm done. That was the 5 minutes of the day that crampons would have been great. That section will have some significant ice if temps drop below freezing tonight. Some other icy patches on the descent, along with more postholes but it a was a fast descent. Great day overall!
