Comments
Comments: The place was a ghost town. Arrived in the lot at about 8:30 and there were only two cars there. The road to the summer trailhead is well packed down by a mix of snow shoes and snow mobiles. The hiking trail was well packed and soft down low and while it remained soft all the way to the summit it wasn’t as well packed at the higher elevations. As we gained elevation it became apparent that there were only one or two pairs of snow shoes ahead of us. I had a hard time getting in a rhythm to take advantage of the work done by those ahead of us - sometimes they took ten steps right on top of each other and at other times there stride seemed to suggest they were ten feet tall. We saw them on there way back down - about 1/2 mile from Garfield Trail/Garfield Ridge Trail junction. They were just normal people. We thanked them for their work and continued on. They were also the only two people that we saw all day. Neither the trail down to the Galehead nor the one to Lafayette have seen recent traffic.
