| Comments: |
The trail up to the Lonesome Lake-Hi Cannon junction was well-packed, no problems with microspikes. Looked like it was pretty good staying on to Lonesome Lake hut- must have been where everyone was headed. Hi-Cannon, however, was only recently broken, and only lightly packed so we switched to snowshoes for the remainder of the ascent. It was a slow, strenuous slog because several groups appeared to have attempted the climb in microspikes, so the effort of the snowshoers that broke trail was pretty much for naught. Several people must have attempted butt-sliding across switchbacks and that made it even more entertaining. By the time we reached the ridge above the ladder we'd had enough. Ate some lunch and headed back after almost 4 hours on those (roughly) 2.5 miles. Views from the ridge were spectacular however, as the sun came out and there was almost no wind. |
