Decided to hit Mt Rowe from Gilford Elementary School side today. The Mt Rowe Trail to the Benjamin Weeks Trail had a great snowshoe track but all we needed was Hillsounds since it was still in the low 30's. Benjamin Weeks not so much, only a bare booter had been on it so we switched to snowshoes all the way to the ridge (BRT) to the Gunstock ski slope. BRT semi broken out but snowshoes seemed easier since there were sections that were not broken out and the snow was getting soft. Quick run to Rowe, awesome views on the ridge. Took the North Spur back to the BWT and then came back to go down the Mt Rowe Trail (Blue). At the junction with the Yellow and Blue, Blue no longer broken out only the lone bare booter again. Since we stayed in snowshoes it wasn't too bad. It is that time of year to carry both snowshoes and other traction for every hike, amazed that a lot of people don't. |
