Peaks
Peaks East Osceola, Mt. Osceola, NH
Trails
Trails: Greeley Ponds Trail, Mt. Osceola Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, March 18, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I decided to wait til 9am to start my day (hoping for at least 10 degrees) so lot was pretty full but nicely plowed. I found a spot perpendicular to the other cars and left enough room for ppl to get by.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Snowbridges are all stable. The few places that didn't have them were easy stepovers.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: whoever cleared the way did a great job. Snow depth causes some minor branches in your face at times but that's not a maintenance issue. Goes with the territory of winter hiking.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: 2 dogs today: a beautiful Husky (didnt get his name) and a very happy part-rottweiler named Cooper. GOOD BOY!!
Bugs
Bugs: so many bugs!!!!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: I saw a small white stuff sack hanging on a branch.

Comments
Comments: The trail was immaculate today!! Thanks to all who have been breaking trail. You made my life a little easier on this sub-zero windchill day! Those who hate snowshoes could probably get away with spikes (although I always prefer snowshoes since they help get the trail in the great condition it is).
I took the Chimney by-pass and did not see a broken trail for the bypass to the bypass. This area was the most sketchy coming down. The steep grade after that on the descent made me opt for a pretty radical butt sled run. (sorry to those who frown on that, but man was it FUN!) Thanks o the group who let me tag along with them throughout the day. You made it interesting. Nice to meet you all!
All in all a great ending to Winter 2018!
