| Comments: |
Trail was broken out top to bottom - a welcome surprise. Maybe 6" of powder on Sawyer River Road (packed out in middle by a lone snowmobile). First portion of Signal Ridge Trail, adjacent the first crossing, was a little bit bony on snowshoes, but snowshoes probably helped keep snowbridge in tact. Maybe 6-8" of powder on top of no base (aside from blue ice) in the lower elevations. Snow depths picked up part way along the long switchback, but with direct sun and temperatures in the 30s, the snow was very sticky - another warm day should hopefully turn that into granular and stop the sticky nature of it. Some blue ice bulges hiding under snowpack. Also, unfortunately quite a bit of beat up trail from barebooting (cleaned it up, but there were still some folks behind without snowshoes). Snow depths increased to maybe 2 feet about 4,000 feet with some drifting as well. Signal Ridge was snowcovered, but not too deep. Maybe 2-3 feet on other side of ridge, up to summit. |
