Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Most of the many water crossings were fine...not much flow and narrow enough to hop over easily. There is one near the trailhead that was about 10 feet across with some sketchy ice covering and running water that I managed to hop over on the most stable looking ice on the way up. On the way back the ice gave way but the water is only a few inches deep.

Comments
Comments: It was smooth sailing early on as Pine Bend was well broken. I barebooted for a few minutes and then put the snowshoes on because there was a little loose stuff on top. Trail was beautiful all the way until about 2800 feet....right in the middle of the steep part where it crosses the gully and heads east for a bit before turning south again. The trail abruptly ended here, completely unbroken. There were a few branching sets of steps but all leading to dead ends. I broke it up to the ridge with varying 1 to 2 feet of snow. Sometimes there were drifts that I had to dig with my hands before I could even step up on them. Slow going to say the least. I made the ledge and the junction with Scaur Ridge. I continued about halfway from the junction up to N Tripyramid...the breaking was a little easier here...but then when it started ascending there were massive drifts again and I called it a day. On my way down I passed a couple barebooters (baffling decision) that were headed up and then later a man in snowshoes so maybe by the end of the day it will be broken out. It will still be rough going though until some more sets of feet make it up there. First time I failed to summit...feels weird to not be able to update my grid after an exhausting day hiking!
