Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings were snow bridged except one which was either rock hoppable or so shallow that I just walked through it in my snow shoes.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple blowdowns on Hancock Notch but easy enough to duck under with minimal effort even for those of us on the taller side. More obstacles on the Hancock Loop trail between the peaks that the trail now diverts around.

Comments
Comments: A cold but beautiful day on the Hancocks. I got a late start so the trail was already broken out. Thanks to those that went first, judging by the depth of the trough it was yeoman's work. Hancock Notch and and Cedar Brook were well broken out. Would still wear snowshoes on them...they are in great condition lets keep them that way. (Was thankful that everyone I saw today was in snowshoes...no postholes anywhere). I started up the north side of the loop and there were nice snowshoe step dug in to the trail making for easy going. Alas it wasn't long before a group of 7 came butt sliding down (they looked to be having the time of their lives) and smoothed out the trail. It was tougher going after that with some sliding backwards. Trail between the peaks is a bit more gnarly, definitely less traveled than the rest with some blowdown obstacles thrown in. Also the snow level is so high that some branches that usually aren't in play became an annoyance. The trail down South was powdery and loose. Fell on my ass a few times. A great last weekend of winter in the mountains!
