easily my hardest climb this winter season. flume slide was unbroken and the ice under all the fresh powder made it a serious workout. i managed to make it with my MSRs on the whole way but was debating a couple times on putting my crampons on. It helps to be flexible and my black diamond whippet pole came in handy for sure. windy and snowing on the summits. ran into a few people on the way down, including one beast hiker in his 70s that i have ran into at least a few times this season and had good conversation with, but we have never mentioned names to each other. haha. i also ran into a father son combo who told me they were going to go down flume slide, to which i responded with maybe they should re consider that and if not, i wished them luck ( the dad seemed like he was going to take my advice, but the kid wanted none of it.haha). the soft conditions were so good for snowshoes today if you snagged the trails early. great hike. GAIA had it at 4:51 |
