Comments
Comments: We decided to try the Cog railway, weren't sure if there was an actual trail, apparently there is. It was a smooth steep wide trail up until 4800? ft. where the thin snow was getting icy, the trail tilts down toward the dropoff into the ravine and we decided that it was getting too dangerous for our taste so we crossed over the tracks to the right (uphill) side which was rough and rocky but not too difficult to negotiate and at least we could no longer fall into the abyss. We followed the cog all the way to summit with some areas of drifted snow, not deep enough for snowshoes. We decided the cog was too steep and icy for a descent with only spikes so we took the Jewel, near the base we stepped over the rope and took the trail to the left which took us back onto the bottom of the cog trail where there are now 2 bridges you can use to cross the stream and took us back to parking lot.
