| Comments: |
Dicey's Mill trail in good condition, solid hard base covered by three inches of fresh snow. Microspikes fine here, no snowshoes needed.
Walden up to the summit was icy and slick, the fresh snow sloughed right off. Ice axe made itself very useful.
Walden down to Mast Road was a luge run. Steep hard ice with a veneer of fresh snow was treacherous. Two of our party had crampons, two had microspikes. Both who had microspikes went on unplanned 20-foot accelerating slides that could have ended badly, but luckily fetched up in soft trees. Lesson learned.
