packed snow on nineteen mile. carter dome was partially broken, but not packed with up to a couple feet of snow. it's a bit more packed down now. the ridge is averaging roughly 2+ feet of snow with deeper sections and drifts. broke out to middle carter sinking down most often a foot of so, but certainly deeper in spots. has now been travelled by at least 3 people so it's in decent shape. carter moriah to dome was not broken out. should become quite a slog if this incoming storm ends up dumping on the mountains. water crossing we partially frozen and not a problem. a couple step over blowdowns between south and middle soon to be buried. a fair number of annoying hanging fir/spruce blocking the trail (as is typical on this route).
snowshoes are the equipment of choice right now.
i had some bigger plans, but got pretty well slowed down by the unbroken trail on the ridge so cut things short. first time breaking trail in almost two years and i was quickly reminded of the joy and pain of such endeavours. some good looks to the presidentials just south of middle peak. nice meeting farmer and dangergirl.
