Hiking Trail Conditions Report

	Trails:	Starr King Trail

	Date of Hike:	Sunday, December 26, 2010

	Parking/Access Road Notes:	Room for 2 cars just past the last house on the road where the plowing ended.

	Surface Conditions:	Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular

	Recommended Equipment:	Snowshoes

	Water Crossing Notes:

	Trail Maintenance Notes:	One small stepover blowdown on the climb to Starr King. Large waist high blowdown on the ridge between the two peaks.

	Dog-Related Notes:	Great trail and conditions for dogs.

	Bugs:

	Lost and Found:	Found a pair of red ski poles about half a mile from the trailhead. Brought them back on my return and propped up behind the information sign at the summer trailhead.


	Comments:	Great day out in the calm before the storm. About a foot of powder at the bottom, increased to a couple of feet up high. The trail has a very well consolidated base all the way. Barebooted for about the first mile then switched to snowshoes for the traction. Also saw others with crampons and barebooting-all seemed to work OK. All will be different tomorrow.
