Comments
Comments: A great day out! High clouds but all the summits in the clear with great views all around. Crawford Path was beautifully packed powder - perfect for snowshoes - there were several parties barebooting or with light traction - the packed surface held well and they only left the occasional post hole which were pretty well smoothed out by the snowshow traffic. Mizpah cutoff was broken out and Webster Cliff Trail from Pierce down to Mizpah broken out as well. Talked to a gentleman coming down Crawford who tried to get to Eisenhower - indicated he couldn't follow trail. My intent was to go to Eisenhower so I went beyond Pierce but found unbroken trail, drifting snow and no clear trail to follow so turned around after a few minutes. Not as easy to follow as last year but I'll be back to try again! FYI- stayed at the Highland Center in the Shapleigh Bunkhouse and while not the great "outdoors experience" I would recommend it - comfotable, great company and one can't beat the convenience for access to trails in the southern whites or Willey range - and the price wasn't bad either!
