| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
As of 1pm today, it's going to be completely different even by now...
Parking lot is plowed and most of ice is melted, also good spaces on side of road.
York Pond Road is clear of ice and mostly dry (although potholy and full of grit) ONLY to the Forest Service boundary. After that, about 50/50 clear and ice sheet, although ice was soft enough to pass a Fit with four-season tires. Going to be bad again once re-freezes. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable) |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Bridges on York Pond Trail are fine.
Ice bridge on the lower major crossing on Bunnell Notch was holding as of 12pm. Several minor tributaries around the crossing are handleable as a mixture of jumpacross, rock hop, and sketchy snow bridge.
Upper major crossing on Bunnell Notch is rock-hoppable and surrounded by several minor tributaries like lower. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Lower part of Bunnell Notch is starting to have saplings grow in.
Ridge from cabin to summit can be somewhat hard to find trail, open woods. One easy duckunder in this section, no other blowdown. |

| Lost and Found: |
Yard sale. Found two hats nested inside each other just up Bunnell Notch trail from the York Pond junction. Found another hat around 3500' on Kilkenny Ridge trail headed up Cabot, and a compass on a keyring with a whistle around the same place. Packed 'em all out, email me if they're yours. |
