The trails were in great condition today. Everything is snowshoe packed. Spikes are sufficient up Avalon trail to Mt Avalon and up to Field. However I was happy to have my snowshoes on the way up as the televators helped me save a lot of energy. Willey Range trail, both from Field to Willey and again from Field to A-Z trail snowshoes would be good to have. There is deep snow in these areas and it was evident someone had wore only spikes and postholed a few times when stepping on the side of the monorail, but it can be done in spikes. Mt Tom spur is firmly packed and spikes would be just fine, same with A-Z trail on the way down. Wonderful weather today, some gusty winds and warmer temps. Snow conditions changed to sticky snow as I made it down A-Z and Avalon trail. There were a few patches of ice which I feel will only turn to ice flows as melting occurs the next couple days and refreezes towards the end of the week. |
